Vista security hardened, but caution advised: Symantec
Despite most security experts agreeing that Windows Vista is more secure than its predecessors, Symantec is warning enterprises contemplating an upgrade to the new operating system not to skimp on basic security precautions. In its Internet Security Threat Report released last week, Symantec identified several possible areas of potential threat related to Vista, saying these may become evident in the next 24 months. The Symantec warnings relate to three areas: the re-emergence of older, previously neutralised threats attacking Vista; the Microsoft protocol Teredo, which was developed to enable transition between versions of Internet protocols (IP); and attackers focusing on common third-party applications.
