Email greeting cards can be dangerous
A new Internet scam uses email greeting cards being sent via spam email and the Reno Police Department warns people to be cautious when opening emails that say they have received a greeting card. “Like many other internet fraud schemes, would-be criminals are sending emails that claim the greeting card is from a family member, old classmate or other friend, but do not include the full name of the person sending the card,” detective Jay Brown of RPD’s financial crimes unit said in a statement. “The first line of defense against this type of fraud, preventing access to your computer and keeping viruses out is to never, ever open an email that you cannot clearly identify as coming from someone you know.”
