Tips for online protection

The general rule for dealing with e-mails from people or companies that you don’t know or have no affiliation with is to delete or forward them to us at: spam@goucher.edu. Forwarding the e-mail to the spam address will let us know if there are any new types of spam that need to be blocked in the future. Some e-mails from PayPal and banks will come through because some are actually legitimate. But, you can find out if the e-mail is legitimate or not by moving your mouse over the link. The link below each picture is what appears in the junk e-mail. But, if you move your mouse over them it will show the real path. The address that appears is the actual website that will collect your personal information. The link may look real and the site may even look like the organization’s. But, since each person or company has to have a unique web address, the imposter tries to disguise its real address with that of the company it is trying to portray.
