Some Good Tech-Security News for a Change
A Nigerian man was sentenced to 18 months in prison by a court in Lagos after he pleaded guilty to stealing information from a NASA employee, the U.S. Department of Justice announced. The man met the victim on an online dating site, and attached a so-called spyware program, software that resides on a computer unbeknownst to the owner, to one of the emails he sent. The spyware allowed him to steal the victim’s bank-account information and social-security number. This conviction is a feather in the cap for the U.S. government because it is often next to impossible to catch cyber criminals who live outside the country.
